Atlas Didn’t Shrug   Leave a comment

…otherwise he would have dropped his universe right on top of me (I know, bad pun. And I haven’t even read the book).  This is a sculpture in front of Rockefeller Center in New York City.

Cold is Here   6 comments

Early morning weather in CT today. ‘Stick season,’ as the locals call it, is here. Still, there’s beauty in it, especially in early morning and evening light. Reminds me of the moody paintings of the romantic German painter Caspar David Friedrich, one of my favorites.

Walk on the High Line   4 comments

A late afternoon along the High Line in New York yielded some nice photo opportunities. The High Line is a 1-mile New York City linear park built on a 1.45-mile section of the former elevated New York Central Railroad spur called the West Side Line.

All photographs taken with Canon Powershot G12, various exposures combined.

Where cars go to party in New York City   2 comments

I took these shots while walking through my neighborhood in the evening, struck by the fact that these sights are pretty rare in Manhattan.

Long Island Rail Station   1 comment

Felt Edward Hopper-like when I saw this scene looking out of my train window on my way to Manhattan.

Last Stop: Chicago   Leave a comment

Last major stop on my cross-country drive was Chicago – I caught a free concert by Low in Millenium Park, then waited for sunset for some photo opportunities. The sculpture is called Cloud Gate by Anish Kapoor, but everyone just calls it ‘The Bean’.

Deadwood, South Dakota   Leave a comment

An old mining town where Wild Bill Hickok was killed and Calamity Jane is buried, it is now just a collection of sad casinos and T-shirt shops catering to bored retirees and drunk teenagers from nearby Rapid City. Only at night does it have a bit of charm.

Berlin Train Station Platform   Leave a comment

As I waited for my commuter train to Potsdam, just outside of Berlin, I caught the train as it pulled into the station.
