Summer Sunset at Low Tide 8 comments
Took our dog Mario out for a walk during low tide about an hour after sunset – and we had the entire beach to ourselves!

I got a taste of what it must feel like to cross the Arctic ice when I walked across the frozen bay of our little town beach (for 2 minutes). The tides caused much of the ice to break in unusual formations, as seen in the second picture.

The cold winter finally has frozen Clinton Harbor. I braved the cold this morning to capture the scene at sunrise.

Well, it’s abandoned at least until summer returns. For now, the only sounds you hear are the cries from seagulls.

Trying out some new filters that Google just added to its Nik Efex collection. Here’s a wet plate filter used on a beach picture I took a few months ago.

Horseshoe Crab Study 4 comments
I found a dead baby horseshoe crab on the beach and decided to make it the subject of a practice lighting session. The underbelly was particularly challenging because of all the detail.

Long Island Sound at sunset, as viewed from our local beach. And if you haven’t seen ‘Dead Calm’ – I highly recommend this little claustrophobic thriller about a couple on a boat taking on a shipwrecked stranger.

World Wide Photo Walk – Guilford, CT 4 comments
On Saturday I participated in Scott Kelby’s World Wide Photo Walk by joining one of thousands of group, this one located in Guilford, CT. We spent a couple hours on the shore taking pictures and exchanging photo tips, and enjoyed ourselves despite the overcast weather. Which means it’s a good time for black&white pictures. Click on any picture to see them as a full-screen slide show.

It was such a beautiful night after a day of 90 degrees that I went to the beach at midnight, only to finally look at my watch and realize I had spent 2 hours taking pictures and playing around with my flashlight.

Fossils Making Out on the Beach 3 comments
I was lucky enough to catch the one day when Horseshoe Crabs come to our town beach to mate. There were at least 15 pairs of these ‘living fossils’ (so-called by Charles Darwin because they look just like their fossilized ancestors) horsing around (pardon the pun) in the shallow water.
