The latest storm has finally shaken off all the fall leaves. Here’s the ‘stick season’ until next Spring. 😦

Someone is enjoying the calm of sunset to do a little fishing in our neighborhood.

This bench, in the evening light, looked like a perfect spot to relax and contemplate the good life. The B&W pic was taken with Hipstamatic, the color was edited with Snapseed.
Caught these amazing clouds at sunrise over Seattle last weekend. Which one do you like best?

…you saw someone using a pay phone? It’s been a while for me, so it struck me as worthy of a quick snapshot.
Apparently this street art installation has been in place in New Haven since 2010, but I just noticed it last week for the first time. The artist is Felice Varini and this is his first installation in the US. While it looks like someone just overlaid a geometric design onto this photograph of this alley, this is actually painted on the walls of the alley and the parking garage behind it.

This boat drifted out of the shipping lane into our local harbor, and got stranded. It laid there for several hours before the tide was high enough again for it to straighten out and continue its journey.

All three were shot indoors with  spring sunlight (finally!) streaming through the windows.

A quick business trip to Washington DC provided only a few occasions for snapshots while walking past the Capitol:

This ride from Washington, DC to New Haven, CT on Amtrak will leave you thinking that all of America consists of refineries, construction sites, abandoned factories, parking lots and water towers. Nevertheless, I was fascinated by what whizzed by my window. Click on any picture to view in slide show format.
I left my house under blue sky on Monday. An hour later I was driving through a heavy snow storm. Will winter never stop in Connecticut?!?
Cartoons on the iPad are much more compelling than those on TV, as I discovered when I observed these visiting kids lounging on our couch.
I love old pine trees in winter. These were captured in Stowe, VT and Big Sky, MT.

It was SO cold that the lifts couldn’t run because the back-up power runs on diesel, and the diesel fuel was too viscous to run through the engine. Had to wait until 11am when it was only -15 degrees!
Needless to say, I rarely removed my gloves to take pictures, but here are a few, shot with the iPhone app Hipstamatic.
I love going to the Sounders games in Seattle: Â 40,000+ fans, standing room only, flags flying, choruses echoing through the stadium, fireworks, and some pretty good soccer, too.

The dad seemed to enjoy the video more than his young son. Still, they were glued to the iphone for quite a while, oblivious to the rest of the world.

This lady clearly enjoyed checking the menu items at a local bookstore cafe.

Despite rain delays, the stands were packed for the Federer match. Even people on the other court tried to get a peek of the match:
The stands were full to the very top:

I didn’t know until I looked at this picture on my computer that I had caught this little fly enjoying the hibiscus flower.

This scene reminded me of a Vermeer, who was an expert at taking a mundane subject (girl filling a jug, woman doing needlepoint) and making it look absolutely stunning. Caught in a local Mexican restaurant (which explains the skull in the background).

My son and his buddy after finishing the Spartan Sprint in Washougal, WA. One hour and forty minutes of running, jumping, and crawling through mud! I did this race with them as a last hurrah before they go to college in a few weeks.

Unfortunately this local hardware store in our town can’t compete with the big box stores and big chains. So sad.
This is the front of the store:

That’s what the bumper sticker says on the fuel tank. And it looks like this Harley Davidson has seen quite a bit of road in its lifetime. Photographed in Branford, CT.

This couple chose the busiest place in New York to have their wedding photos taken. Romantic, yet very frustrating for the photographer who wanted no people in the background!

Some dramatic storm clouds were forming while I flew from Connecticut to Seattle:
A quick trip to Boston only provided one photo opportunity, of puffy clouds reflecting in the John Hancock Building. This is part 2 of a series, the first entry coming from Oregon and posted earlier here.
