Captured during a hike in Marin, CA, in one of the many fortifications surrounding the Golden Gate Bridge.
Seems utterly plausible that Batman could swoop through this scene, doesn’t it?

I loved the lines of this intersection as we drove past it. Shot out the window with my iPhone, I had to be quick to capture the angle, as my wife wasn’t about to stop driving just so I could adjust the settings.

The Mayflower replica, usually moored in Plymouth, MA, is currently at the Mystic Seaport shipyard, the only shipyard on the Eastern Seaboard qualified to restore antique ships like this one. It’ll be there for the next 6 winters, with the goal to have the restoration completed in time for the 400th anniversary of Plymouth in 2020.

Not a blacksmith with occult powers, but one located in Mystic Seaport, Connecticut.
Although the rays of sunlight did give this location a somewhat divine feel.

Named after the actor, not the razor company, this castle is located above the Connecticut River in Connecticut. I like the black&white version better, how about you?

Marc Cooper just became my 1,000th follower on WordPress! Thank you, my fellow bloggers, for appreciating my images sufficiently to follow my photographic flights of fancy on a regular basis. Here is the photo that started it all, the one that has turned out the be the most popular, and my personal favorite:

These are the last pictures I’ll post from my trip to Rio de Janeiro in June. This favela, with over 70,000 inhabitants, is now a neighborhood favela, featuring 4 schools and several hospitals. It houses many middle-class Brazilians who like the affordable living within one of South America’s largest metropolises. Click on any picture to see them in slideshow format.
Apparently this street art installation has been in place in New Haven since 2010, but I just noticed it last week for the first time. The artist is Felice Varini and this is his first installation in the US. While it looks like someone just overlaid a geometric design onto this photograph of this alley, this is actually painted on the walls of the alley and the parking garage behind it.

The labyrinth of alleys in the Rocinho favela are best explored with someone who lives there. It’s easy to get lost. When in doubt, keep going downstairs, as eventually you’ll end up at the bottom of the hill where the favela ends. Click on any image to see them in slideshow format.

This ride from Washington, DC to New Haven, CT on Amtrak will leave you thinking that all of America consists of refineries, construction sites, abandoned factories, parking lots and water towers. Nevertheless, I was fascinated by what whizzed by my window. Click on any picture to view in slide show format.
Finally a sunny day – and green buildings add to the feeling that Spring has finally arrived:

I left my house under blue sky on Monday. An hour later I was driving through a heavy snow storm. Will winter never stop in Connecticut?!?
I had no idea that tobacco was grown this far north. Shot these tobacco barns this fall, but only now got around to editing the pictures.

Bruges is full of small streets, unexpected views, and gorgeous canal scenes. It’s definitely my favorite small city in Europe. Plus, the chocolate and fries are to die for.
I drive by this house every day in our neighborhood – and I finally decided to take a shot of it while still decorated for the holidays.

You come across all kinds of windmills in Belgium – old ones from the mid 1700s to new ones towering over the freeway.
My son and I visited this old mining town recently. Founded in 1863, it was the capital of the Territory of Montana for 10 years. During that time, miners extracted over $90M ($40B in today’s dollars) of gold in the area, and the city housed about 10,000 people. Now its population is down to 132.
I love going to the Sounders games in Seattle: 40,000+ fans, standing room only, flags flying, choruses echoing through the stadium, fireworks, and some pretty good soccer, too.

This is the second batch of photos I took at the abandoned Winchester Rifle factory in New Haven. A sunny day provided excellent lighting inside. Click on any picture to see them in slide show format.

I took pictures in an old factory today, using it as a giant studio. Got to practice with lighting quite a bit. That’s why I look so pleased.
