The light is getting more and more beautiful in the evenings here in Connecticut. Soon the temperature will cooperate, too.

Covered a lot of territory in DC over the weekend, here are some miscellaneous impressions:

Sat in Madison Park yesterday before lunch, and enjoyed an impromptu trumpet concerto while enjoying the warm weather and the view of the Flatiron Building, one of my favorite buildings in the world.

Found a few interesting shots even in such humdrum environment as a small regional airport. These were taken in Eugene, OR:

This tree has a commanding presence in our neighborhood. Can’t wait for the leaves to return this spring.

Caught in Salt Lake City airport bar. Where true cowboys still roam (Utah, that is, NOT the airport).
After so many posts of frozen flowers, icy ponds, snowy trees and wind-swept beaches, I decided I HAD to post something sunny and warm. Here’s our beach in the summer – a far cry from the empty and icy beach it is now. Can’t wait for summer!

Took this double exposure of my son and a parking meter in Missoula, MT:

This color is ubiquitous in Vermont and really stands out, especially in the snow.

With very little to see in winter, my attention turns to the really small things on the beach:

Caught while walking through New York, where nobody walks slow enough to get a shot that’s sharply focused. That’s New York: you blink and you miss it.

Visions of Vermont snow are always on my mind these days:

Vermont forest in winter – even now there are lots of colors in the forest.
This one was a double exposure experiment:

These geese were making a few passes over the field behind our house during sunrise, and then they disappeared beyond the horizon. Hope they found a warm place to set down.

Today my blog crossed the threshold of 10,000 all-time views. Thanks to everyone for your comments, visits, and encouragement over the last 2 years!
Now on with the regular post: A visit to the local antique store is always a source for great macro photography, even when I just have my iphone with me. Here’s what I found when strolled through there last week:

The frosted forests of Vermont would have made the perfect setting for the ice princess in the Chronicles of Narnia.

My favorite bookshelf is the one in my house — like good friends, these surround me and remind me of good times. And right next to it is my reading chair, making for a lovely spot to spend a rainy day. What’s your favorite reading spot? On to the next book….

Even in the cold, wet weather, the local beach provides some good photo opportunities – you just have to get close to your subject.

The town of Branford, CT, honored all men and women killed in action in Afghanistan and Iraq with flags. One for each casualty. A powerful reminder of the futility of war.

Today the sky was so blue I just had to post some pictures of it. And the fall blooms provided a nice contrast. It was the kind of gorgeous day that made me think of one of my favorite songs that always gets my feet tapping: ‘Mr. Blue Sky’ by ELO (“Sun is shining in the sky, there ain’t a cloud in sight…”).

and they’re spectacular (probably not the best ad to endear itself to New Yorkers…)
Shot with iPhone, in NY.
Friday afternoon in Grand Central Terminal still feels so much calmer than any other train station I’ve ever seen.
While walking through the endless emerald tinted rain forest of Costa Rica, something as bright and colorful as this is definitely royalty.

Shot at JFK airport – looks like the airport is in the same shape as the streets in Manhattan.

Love the fall colors, even though they are not as bright as usual because hurricane Irene covered the trees with salt water, which made them lose their leaves earlier than usual.
Felt Edward Hopper-like when I saw this scene looking out of my train window on my way to Manhattan.
