Children’s Grave   3 comments

Heartbreaking to think that these parents buried 4 children, aged from infant to 4 years old. Life expectancy of babies at that time was pretty low – some families didn’t bother to name a baby until it had reached its first birthday!

  1. One of the saddest things about visiting old graveyards – so much infant and childbirth mortality. Makes me count my blessings with our modern healthcare.

  2. At our family graveyard on Iron Ridge in S.W. Virginia you see this a lot. Some of our family is buried there all the way back to the late 1700’s. You can see the time frames where different diseases came through the area killing some adults but so many little babies, so sad.
